How to pass Google Play's 12 testers for 14 days requirement
20 Oct 2026 · 7 min read
If you opened a personal Google Play developer account after 13 November 2023, you can't publish straight to production. First you must run a closed test with at least 12 testers who have been opted in for the last 14 days continuously. Only then does the "Apply for production" button unlock.
What Google actually checks
- Opted-in testers, not installs. A tester counts once they accept the invitation (join your Google Group or tap "Become a tester" on the opt-in page).
- Continuous days. The 14 days are a rolling window. If you drop below 12 opted-in testers, the count starts again.
- Engagement. In the production application Google asks how testers used your app and what you changed based on feedback. Twelve people who never opened the app makes that hard to answer.
Mistakes that reset your clock
- Inviting exactly 12 people. One person leaving the group or switching accounts drops you to 11. Always keep a buffer of 3 or more.
- Removing or recreating the Google Group or track mid-test.
- Testers using a different Google account on their phone than the one that joined the group.
- Waiting for "the perfect build". Start the test early and push updates to the same track during the 14 days.
A day-by-day plan
Day 0 — set up
Create the closed track, add a Google Group, upload a build and copy the opt-in link. Our setup guide shows every click.
Days 1–3 — get above 12, fast
Get 15+ people opted in. Ask them to install from the Play Store link (not an APK) and open the app once.
Days 4–13 — collect feedback and ship updates
Ask testers for a short note every day: what they tried, what confused them, any crash. Release at least one update that fixes something they reported — it gives you a real story for the application.
Day 14 — apply
Go to Dashboard → Apply for production. Answer honestly and specifically: how you found testers, how they used the app, what you fixed. TestPass drafts these answers from your real feedback.
Where TestPass fits
Finding 12 reliable people is the hard part. TestPass assigns real testers on real Android phones, keeps a buffer above 12, replaces anyone who goes quiet and collects daily feedback on a live dashboard. Google still decides production access — we make sure the testing part is solid.
Need 12 real testers?
TestPass gives you real people on real phones, a buffer above 12 and daily feedback — from ₹999.
